Car hire on Lanzarote

On this page you’ll get tips and advice on hiring a car on Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, and the cheapest rental cars at guaranteed lowest price. If this is your first time renting a car in Spain, please read our general tips on car hire in the country via the link below.

Our car rental offices on Lanzarote

The vast majority of the car rental agencies on Lanzarote are at Lanzarote Airport, which you can read more about below. However, car hire is also possible at other locations on the island.

  • Puerto del Carmen: In the town of Puerto del Carmen, south of the airport, there is a car rental office on Calle Guanapay with a large number of rental cars. This office is very central, and is also close to the beach.
  • Costa Teguise: Costa Teguise is on the northern part of the island’s eastern coast. There are two car rental offices here: one on Calle de Jabillo in the south parth of the city, and one at Hotel Melina Salinas in the north.
  • Playa Blanca: The city of Playa Blanca is on the southern tip of Lanzarote, and there is a car rental office in the central part of the city. Getting from Playa Blanca to the other parts of the island, and to many nice spots in the area, is smooth and easy.

Car hire at Lanzarote Airport

There is only one airport on Lanzarote, and it services both scheduled and charter flights. The major car rental firms have their offices in terminal 1 and 2. Many of these firms also have offices in other locations on the island.

You might be offered extra insurance upon arrival. Be careful not to say yes to anything that is already included in the rental agreement!

The traffic rules on Lanzarote are the same as in the rest of Spain. You should, however, be aware of that some roads in the mountains can be winding, narrow and bumpy.

Where to go on Lanzarote

Lanzarote has very interesting scenery and landscape. It was the first island in the world to be named a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1993. With a car, you are able to get around the whole island and discover the amazing nature.

La Geria
The wineries in the area of La Geria are so unique that they are on the UNESCO’s World Heritage list because of the specific methods used in the wine production. The scenery in this area is also very unique and interesting. The wineries are located among volcanoes and the ground is covered with volcanic ash.

Fundacion César Manrique
Another popular destination which is easy to reach by car is the Fundacion César Manrique. This is where the famous artist César Manrique lived. The house has, after his passing, become a well-known art museum that attracts many visitors.

On Lanzarote’s northern coastline lies the town of Órzola, known for its fishing and its restaurants. Also nearby is the magnificent Playa de la Canterina, which is surrounded by gorgeous high cliffs.
