Car hire at Glasgow Airport
Glasgow Airport (airport code: GLA) is about 10 miles from the city centre. Picking up a rental car at the airport is very smooth. A number of car rental firms have offices at the airport and you can find them all near the Arrivals hall. The rental cars are parked directly outside the airport.
Car hire is also available in central Glasgow if you want to explore the city before heading out on a road trip.
Where to go around Glasgow
Glasgow is very well connected to the major motorways in Scotland and it is easy to get to many nice places using the city as a starting point. You’ll find both countryside and small, cosy villages nearby.
The amazing Fort William is a one-and-a-half-hour drive north of Glasgow. The fort is nestled in a valley with Loch Eli just next to it and Scotland’s highest peak Ben Nevis towering in the background. Here you’ll find many nice restaurants serving both mussels and locally caught fish. Also nearby is the Ben Nevis Distillery, where you can get a guided tour and learn all about the impressive whisky production.
Oban is a small town with a lot of history. There are many interesting and fascinating sights, such as the town’s castle, an old jail and Clan Maclean’s old castle. You can also visit the Scottish Sealife Sanctuary, where you can get a very close look at seals, otters and other marine animals. A perfect outing for the whole family!
Gleniffer Braes Country Park
Just south of Glasgow is Glennifer Braes Country Park. Here you’ll find many nice hiking trails suitable for both walking and biking. There is also a car park known as “the car park in the sky”. Here you’ll get a stunning view of the nearby town Paisley and the Ben Lomond mountain.
