Car hire at Venice Airport
All major car rental companies are represented at Venice Marco Polo Airport (airport code: VCE). Their offices are well sign-posted and can be found outside the Arrivals hall. The car rental comanies also have offices in the city, for example at the Mestre train station.
Where to go around Venice
Venice’s proximity to both sea and mountains provides many good road trip opportunities in the area. You’ll really find loads to see around Venice, both in terms of nature and cities. Below is a list our favourite places.
Grado is about a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Venice. This is a small city located on a peninsula and an adjacent island, close to the Slovenian border. Grado is known for its many spas and historic buildings. Visitors can also spend some time at the water park, which has many attractions for both adults and children.
A trip north from Venice will take you to the magnificent Dolomites, and will make for a perfect day trip. The Dolomites are a mountain range that are part of the Alps, and the area has stunning views. There are also many cosy little villages to visit along the way.
About 125 miles north of Venice is Trento, the capital of Trentino. Trento is a large city, with both shoppping and other attractions. For example, the city is home to the large, beautiful medieval castle Buonconsiglio. The town Cathedral, also known as the Duomo, is worth a visit as well.
