Car hire at Grenoble Airport

Grenoble International Airport Alpes-Isère (airport code: GNB) officially belongs to Lyon, but it is located close to Grenoble.

At Grenoble Airport, there are plenty of excellent car hire possibilities. However, you should be aware that many of the companies only offer car rental during the winter season, which is the high season in the area. Some car rental companies are open during the rest of the year as well, but only with limited opening hours.

You’ll find the car rental offices at the airport car park, in close connection to the terminal’s entrance and exit.

What to do around Grenoble

The area surrounding Grenoble is full of fantastic ski resorts and stunning nature. There are also several nice little towns and villages. With the Alps in such close proximity, there is always lots to see and do if you have a car! Below we’ll mention some of our favourite spots.

Chamrousse
If you are keen on skiing, you won’t want to miss a trip to the well-known Chamrousse ski resort. It is an approximate 45 minute drive from Grenoble. This ski resort has 24 ski lifts and over 55 miles of downhill slopes in total. You can also enjoy excellent cross-country ski trails. There is even a famous bike path that is used in the Tour de France. In short, Chamrousse is a must for the outdoorsy type!

Valence
Just shy of 60 miles from Grenoble lies the historic town of Valence. This town has been named one of the most historically and artistically interesting towns in France. Other than a cozy town centre, you’ll also find several fascinating historic edifices, for example Saint Apollinaris Cathedral (Valence Cathedral)

Chambéry
The town of Chambéry is about 30 miles from Grenoble. The town is known for its historic significance, and has long been the capital of the Savoy region. Here you’ll find a very impressive castle, Chateu de Chambéry. One of the most famous landmarks of the city is Fontaine des Éléphants.
