Car hire at Manchester airport

Manchester Airport (airport code: MAN) is about eight miles from the city centre. The airport is the third largest in the UK, and it has very good connections to other parts of the country.

There are excellent car rental possbilities at Manchester Airport. A free shuttle bus takes you from the Arrivals terminal to the car rental offices. The bus departs every ten minutes, making it both easy and convenient to get to the offices.

Car hire is also available in central Manchester as most car rental firms have offices there too.

Where to go around Manchester

Manchester’s central location makes it an excellent starting point for road trips. With the amazing scenery of Yorkshire to the north and cosy villages in its immediate vicinity, there is something here for everyone.

The Lake District
Lake District National Park is a little over an hour’s drive north of Manchester. Here you’ll find some of Britain’s most famous scenery, with mountains, lakes and wonderful nature. Both hiking and biking is possible, but a drive through the Park by car with stops on the way is also a fantastic experience.

Alton Towers
If you want a fast paced adventure, a trip to the theme park Alton Towers is a given destination. It is an approximate hour-and-a-half drive from Manchester. Here you’ll find many thrilling, famous rides. There is also a water park and several restaurants. A perfect outing for the whole family!

Shrewsbury
About 60 miles south of Manchester is the cosy and historic town of Shrewsbury. The city is known for its well-preserved ancient buildings, and you can visit both a Castle and an Abbey. If you are here in the summer, the beautiful Dingle garden is worth a visit.
