Car hire at Aarhus airport

Aarhus airport (airport code: AAR) is a smaller airport approximately 22 miles from the centre of Aarhus. The airport is easily accessed by car, and there is much to discover in the surrounding area.

Five major car hire companies are represented at Aarhus airport. Their offices are located directly adjacent to the arrivals hall and, therefore, very easy to find.

What to do in Aarhus

Aarhus is situated on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula and is the second largest city in Denmark. In its vicinity, you’ll find both cozy coastal towns and beautiful scenery. With a rental car, getting around the area is made easy and the driving distances are not too far.

If you are an outdoorsy type, the small town of Klitmöller (approximately two hours drive from Aarhus) is an ideal destination. The town is colloquially known as “the cold Hawaii”, and is renowned for its beaches and windsurfing. Surfing is also available and in the summer, the beaches are perfect for swimming and sunbathing.

Esbjerg is a large seaport town located 16 kilometres west of Aarhus that has a lot to offer. The town has several historically interesting sights, but also plenty of shopping opportunities and museums. Given that Esbjerg is an old fishing town, the sea is never far away. The surrounding area also has stunning scenery, especially the drive along the coast is a fantastic experience.

About 75 miles north of Aarhus lies the town of Holstebro. This town has long been considered the hub of Jutland, and the town is very quaint with many pedestrian streets and beautiful buildings. A river also runs through the city – The Large Creek. A short drive west from the city, you’ll also find the beautiful and scenic Nissum fjord.
