What to do in Amsterdam

With its central location on the Dutch coast, Amsterdam is the perfect starting point for excursions to various parts of the country, from the sea and beach to the countryside and different historic sites.

Keukenhof has been nicknamed the Garden of Europe for good reason. Every year no less than seven million tulip bulbs are planted in this park and the mere sight of it in full bloom is an experience like no other. The park is only open between March and May, so make sure not to miss the opportunity to experience it when possible! Inside the park, you’ll also find a castle that is well worth a visit.

About an hour’s drive south of Amsterdam is the city of Gouda, renowned for it’s world famous cheese, named after the town. Gouda as a town was founded as early as in the 1200s and, therefore, has a rich history which is reflected in the many interesting buildings found throughout the city. Make sure not to miss the Town Hall, which was built during the 1500s.

Den Helder
In North Holland, you’ll find the city of Den Helder, which has been home to the country’s main naval base since the late 1700s. Here you can get very close to the ocean, and the beautiful island of Texel is reachable by ferry from the city. Den Helder is also known for its beatiful beaches and is, during the summer, a popular beach resort.
